VIK is thrilled to announce its recognition as a finalist in two distinguished categories of The Drinks Business Green Awards 2024. This esteemed accolade celebrates the outstanding efforts of drinks companies dedicated to enhancing sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
The categories in which VIK has been shortlisted include:
Best Green Launch
This award recognises VIK’s recent launch of STONEVIK, a unique wine created with environmentally friendly principles at its core. Amorim Sustainability Award
VIK has also been nominated for its extensive efforts to adopt sustainable practices across its production and agricultural processes since the winery was founded in 2009. VIK seeks to protect its environmental and social ecosystem through its winemaking and agricultural practices.
Amongst VIK’s many initiatives are the use of electricity generated with renewable energy, its work with local suppliers and its active membership of Chile’s Wine Climate Change and Biodiversity programme, which is committed to conserving native forest, flora, and fauna. VIK works to preserve the flora and fauna in the 4,000 hectares of native forest on its estate and ensures a synergistic relationship with the vineyard.
“We are incredibly honored to be nominated for these prestigious awards,” said Gastón Williams, CEO. “Seeing our efforts to promote sustainability recognised by industry leaders inspires us to continue innovating and making a positive impact within the drinks sector.”
The Drinks Business Green Awards, now in its 15th year, is a hallmark of sustainability in the drinks industry. The winners across various categories will be revealed at a live ceremony in November, along with announcements for special categories such as Green Personality of the Year and Best Organic Initiative.
VIK is committed to driving positive change in the industry through its collaborative projects that, in turn, benefit the entire sector via open initiatives. In this regard, VIK has successfully added value at every link in the production chain, consolidating its status as a holistic vineyard with social consciousness and as a pioneer in collaborative and innovative initiatives. This means that the best practices proven to work
internally, which result in higher quality, are extended to the rest of the industry.
Specific vineyard projects such as Winelab and Barroir have broadened VIK’s social reach, facilitating direct interaction with the community through relationship-building that adds value. The beneficiaries of these projects include young winemaking talents, suppliers, and small producers in the area who receive direct support and technical assistance necessary for implementing these advancements within their businesses.

About VIK
• VIK is a Chilean winery located in the Cachapoal Valley, known for its commitment to sustainability and its holistic approach to winemaking. The winery produces high-quality wines that reflect the diversity and complexity of its terroir. Its iconic wine VIK 2021 has been awarded 100 points by James Suckling and was recently launched on La Place de Bordeaux.
• The winery was founded by Alex and Carrie Vik in 2006 in Millahue, in the Cachapoal Valley, with the aim of developing world-class vineyards that give rise to unique wines.
• With 4,500 hectares in the Cachapoal Valley and a team of winemakers, climatologists, geologists, winegrowers and agronomists, the VIKs have developed an exceptional terroir that produces award-winning wines.
• Holism is the concept that best reflects the VIK spirit. It’s the perfect union of humans and nature as an integrated whole. Our holistic wines are the result of a magnificent, dynamic terroir and the best winegrowing and winemaking techniques and practices, protecting and enhancing the environment, concern for human and social development, and a focus on art and architecture.
• The winery promotes environmentally friendly winegrowing and winemaking practices. Fermentation is spontaneous, with no added yeasts. We use the “water in winter” method, irrigating the vines to ensure they are not unnecessarily dehydrated when summer arrives.
• Other sustainable activities are: VIK now officially obtains 100% of its electricity from clean, non-polluting renewable energy sources. The vineyard is surrounded by 2,000 hectares of native forest and biological corridors. We plant native trees periodically, including more than 2,000 Quillay trees to date.
• Viña VIK was ranked as one of the globe’s leading vineyards in the prestigious World’s Best Vineyards competition (Third place in 2023).
• The company’s winery and oenotourism experience have been widely applauded in the international press, as has our innovative winemaking. In 2019 we were honoured to be chosen as the World’s Best Wine Experience by the prestigious Wine Enthusiast magazine.
